At Sophia College, we are committed to fostering authentic partnerships with our students, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment where every student is empowered to reach their full potential and contribute positively to society.
A key avenue for student empowerment is through consultation and Student Voice, which enables students to actively participate in shaping their school experience and driving meaningful change.
Student Voice at Sophia College is underpinned by three key principles:
- Authentic Expression – Sharing genuine thoughts, ideas, and opinions in an environment built on trust, mutual respect, and open communication.
- Collective Responsibility – Offering realistic and constructive suggestions that consider the wellbeing and success of the entire school community.
- Action & Accountability – Taking ownership of not just what is said, but also ensuring that words translate into meaningful actions.
One of the primary platforms for Student Voice at Sophia College is LaVoce, the College's dedicated student voice group. Comprising elected Fratelli Guardians and other student representatives, LaVoce meets three times per term to discuss key events, address student concerns, and serve as a sounding board for ideas. This group plays a pivotal role in enhancing student engagement, developing leadership capacity, and fostering a culture of collaboration.
Beyond the College, students also have the opportunity to amplify their voices on a broader scale through representation at the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Student Voice Festival of Ideas, where they contribute to discussions that shape the future of Catholic education across the region.
At Sophia College, we believe that student voice is not just about being heard—it's about making a lasting impact.
